‘What If’ World #5 and the Unmistakable Reminder

Sunday, February 10th, 2008 : By Dan Miller

In this series we are examining the mid-life calling to rescue the Children of Israel who are being held as slaves in Egypt.  In the process of communicating to Moses, we see his “what if” world develop.  What do I mean by Moses’ “What If” world?  Have you ever been in a situation in which you know how you should act, but find yourself negotiating your options?  For example, “I know I should tell this person that they are wrong in how they are acting, but What if they get upset with me?  Or, “I know I shouldn’t let my friend talk badly about others, but what if I don’t listen . . . who else will they be able to confide in?  A “What If” world is any situation you find yourself in which you know how you should act but find your feelings or your imagination override what you know to be the right thing to do.

It is in this “world” we find ourselves majoring on our knee-jerk feeling vs. what is the right or wrong thing to do according to what the Bible says.

Today we will again find ways to combat our tendency to think more about how to avoid difficult circumstances vs. gaining courage to do the right thing in light of the fact that we have a Soveriegn God.

About The Author

I have been married to an amazing wife, Vicki, since 1992 and together we enjoy pouring into our six kids the greatness of our God. My favorite food is Italian. I enjoy playing 80’s metal riffs on my guitar. I love all the major sports (except soccer, but that’s not really a sport anyhow). My favorite sporting event is the Final Four tournament in March/April. I think the best season of the year is the Fall. I would love to be hiking and camping on some trail right now.
