Everything and More

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008 : By Kevin Schultz

This Sunday we will be singing “Praise Your Name”, a song written by Todd Fields. He writes in the song that God gives “everything and more”. One could ask, “is it possible to give more than everything?” I have thought about it some and have my ideas, but I thought I’d be interesting you all to kick around this idea for awhile. So…

How does God give “everything and more” to His children?

Speaking Out of Turn

Monday, March 31st, 2008 : By Kevin Schultz

Ron Man at blog.worship.com has written a great post regarding how followers of Christ should approach our Sunday gatherings. I think this is a great reminder of why we get together on Sunday mornings. Here’s just a sample of the post:

Our worship is an obedient response to God’s invitation. We may invoke God to bless our worship and to make his presence known. But in a greater sense we cannot invite God to be present in our worship; He never left—we did! Rather it is God who invites us to worship. It is his Word which tells us to “Come, let us worship and bow down. . . .” God has revealed himself to us and has established

Music Resource

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007 : By Kevin Schultz

A good number of folks have asked about the music played during the Lord’s Supper recently. What you have heard is a song called “Abigail” from a project called Streams.

I wanted to pass on a link to the CD as it is not available on iTunes.

From the amazon page -

Based on the concept of healing in times of crisis, Streams combines the talents of contemporary Christian music [artists] and the Irish Film Orchestra (who contribute a lavish orchestral suite) in an anthem of comfort for the weary, the hurting, and the spiritually impoverished.

My favorite track is “Sanctuary”. Give them all a listen at the Amazon page. I have found much encouragement in …

Why Fathers Matter

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007 : By Kevin Schultz

John Piper’s Father died just 11 hours ago. John has already posted his journal from his last moments in the hospital with his Father. I encourage you to read it.

I’d like to draw your attention to this paragraph.

“Thank you, Daddy. Thank you for sixty-one years of faithfulness to me. I am simply looking into his face now. Thank you. You were a good father. You never put me down. Discipline, yes. Spankings, yes. But you never scorned me. You never treated me with contempt. You never spoke of my future with hopelessness in your voice. You believed God’s hand was on me. You approved of my ministry. You prayed for me. Everyday. That may be the

The Fuel, Fire, Furnace, and Heat of Worship

Friday, January 19th, 2007 : By Kevin Schultz

I have been reading Desiring God by John Piper lately. In the chapter on worship, Piper describes the components of worship in a unique way.

In the context of John 4:1-26, Piper offers this picture:

“The fuel of worship is a true vision of the greatness of God; the fire that makes the fuel burn white hot is the quickening of the Holy Spirit; the furnace made alive and warm by the flame of truth is our renewed spirit; and the resulting heat of our affections is powerful worship, pushing its way out in confessions, longings, acclamations, tears, songs, shouts, bowed heads, lifted hands, and obedient lives.”

I read that and think how critical it is for sound biblical thinking to …

Awesome God Kids CD on iTunes

Thursday, August 31st, 2006 : By Kevin Schultz

It’s good to be back in the Grace Fellowship blogsphere…

Just a quick post to say one of the CDs used in Children’s Ministry at Grace Fellowship is available on iTunes for $9.99. The CD is called “Awesome God”. I suggest searching by “sovereign grace music” in the music store. It will show up in the “Albums” section.

If you’d like to have the CD, jewel case, and artwork, click here. It’s currently $12.00 plus shipping.

“Awesome God” is a great set of God-centered songs for kids and adults. We have been blessed to hear the children sing “Almighty Creator” and “Jesus Came to Earth”. Both are songs from the CD. The band …

C.S. Lewis - the preacher

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005 : By Kevin Schultz

From C.S. Lewis in his sermon, The Weight of Glory:

“If we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires not too strong but too weak. We are halfhearted creatures fooling about with drink and sex and ambition, when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mudpies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”
