Obama and Abortion, Say What?

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008 : By Dan Miller

John McCormack of the Weekly Standard tells of the growing contradiction between Barack Obama - “the man of principle” and Barack Obama - “the politician searching for votes.”

McCormack: “During the past week, Obama has proven to be woefully ignorant of abortion law, or he has been deceiving voters about the legality of abortion, as well as his own position on the issue. . . . Are we really supposed to believe that Obama, the former editor of Harvard Law Review and onetime lecturer at the University of Chicago law school, doesn’t understand Roe v. Wade and a bill that he’s co-sponsoring?”

A Day at the Beach (Part 2). . . Warning: Rip Current

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008 : By Donna Farr

In Part One of my post, I talked about a day at the pool, while we were on our beach vacation. We were surrounded by girls and women who were wearing very revealing swimsuits. Let me just say that I am so thankful for my husband! Anytime one of these ladies would walk by, he would intentionally look at me, the kids, or the ground. To make things more relaxed and enjoyable for us all, though, I suggested that we leave the pool area and head to the beach, which was less crowded. As we walked down there (with me admittedly frustrated and pouting all the way), this warning sign caught my attention:

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008 : By Dan Miller

On Friday (June 20), Dennis Rainey of Family Life sent the following email to some of his friends regarding the death of his newly-born granddaughter, Molly. The e-mails have now been made public since they hold a wonderful testament to God’s grace in the lives of the extended family. Dennis recounts his emotions and surrounding circumstances of the last precious moments spent with family and Molly before she passed to be with Jesus.

A Day at the Beach . . . and Beyond (Part 1)

Friday, June 6th, 2008 : By Donna Farr

My family recently enjoyed our annual vacation to the beach. It is always such a wonderful time of relaxing on the beach and at the pool, refocusing on our family time, and enjoying God’s creation. We are so thankful for the blessing of being able to have this annual tradition!

However, this year, I must confess I was a little less thankful than usual. As we spent our first day at the pool, I was caught off-guard by the many women and girls whose swimsuits must have shrunk in the dryer before they came to the pool. I know that this is not a new problem, but we purposely schedule our vacation time during the off-times that are less crowded.

In Memory of Maria Chapman

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008 : By Dan Miller

We weep with those who weep, grieving, but not as those who have no hope.

News from last night: Steven Curtis Chapman’s youngest child died Wednesday evening after being struck by a car driven by her teenage brother in the driveway of the family’s Williamson County home.

Maria, one of the Christian singer’s six children, was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt Hospital, which confirmed the death, according to Laura McPherson, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The 5-year-old was hit by an SUV. . . .

Singer/songwriter Chapman, who recently was inducted into Music City Walk of Fame, is one of contemporary Christian music’s most recognizable and most awarded names.

Do Godly Husbands Have “Man Caves?”

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 : By Hugh Williams

Boys will be boys… there’s a time and a place for giving the Y chromosome its due. But CNN has a piece titled “Why He Needs a Room of His Own” featuring these glimpses into American domestic life (emphasis added):

Sal Guarisco, a 51-year-old sales manager from Atlanta, negotiated a mantuary with his wife, Wendy… “It’s a place to decompress so that by the weekend you’re not hiding out,” Sal says…”Sal has a lot he needs to escape from, so it’s good that he has a place to go,” says Wendy…

Jill Scully, 31, of Pescadero, California, doesn’t sneak up on fiancé Nicholas Woodman, 32, in his lair, a barn outfitted with $13,000 of race car simulation

Have a TV in your Kids Room?

Friday, March 14th, 2008 : By Dan Miller

Al Mouler cites some major issues kids face when parents put TV’s in their kids rooms (BTW. the full article says parents “allow” but I think that this term is a copout).

Some of the information indicates that in 2002, the journal “Pediatrics” reported that preschool children with bedroom TVs were more likely to be overweight. In October, the journal “Obesity” suggested that the risk might be highest for boys. In a study among French adolescents, boys with a bedroom television were more likely than their peers to have a larger waist size and higher body fat and body mass index. The French study also showed, not surprisingly, that boys and girls with bedroom TVs spent …

The Faith of a Child

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008 : By Donna Farr

I just have to share something that happened last week.  It was very heart-warming and encouraging for a momma!

Austin (6 yo) walked in my office tonight and announced that Savannah (8 yo) had a problem “they” needed help with. Savannah’s face looked very troubled, and I confess that my immediate thought was “Oh no . . . what has she done?” To my surprise, Savannah and Austin wanted advice on how to encourage some friends to stop being unkind to one of her classmates. She told me of her concern of how this newer classmate feels different, since he started mid-year and is not really at the same level as the other students, and that at school that day

Little Orphan Donna

Thursday, March 6th, 2008 : By Donna Farr

My family recently watched the old musical Annie. What a charming and happy orphan Annie is! Her happiness stems from hope, because she knows that she belongs to someone and that someone will rescue her. Well, my hair is not red and curly, and I’m certainly not as charming as she is, but I am an orphan, nonetheless. Yes, I’m Little Orphan Donna. Don’t worry, though. I have been adopted by my own Daddy Warbucks, and He’s the richest man in the world!

So, what do you think of when you hear the word “adoption”? Maybe you think of someone giving hope to one who didn’t have hope, someone giving identity to one who didn’t know his identity. Perhaps you
