Sunday, February 14th, 2010 : By Dan Miller

How many times have you seen a person make a decision based on an emotion or a feeling? How often were those decisions wrong? Whether it’s a person “falling in love” or the purchase of a lottery ticket due to a “hunch,” we are often seduced by our feelings. Since Jesus was human, do you think He ever made a decision based on feelings alone? We know he didn’t make any bad decisions… so how did Jesus live life yet never make an emotional “knee-jerk” decision? Today, we will continue to consider the model that Jesus provides for us in order to discern how to overcome our often self-oriented feelings and build our lives on …

Personal Jesus, Part V: Jesus, Our Model for Spiritual Living – Part II

Sunday, February 7th, 2010 : By Dan Miller

The effects of Jesus’ trust in the Father are profound and tremendously instructive. Since the desire of Jesus was to please the Father, the emotions and desires that Jesus had were always God-centered. The opposite is true for us today. Even as Christians our emotions and desires are rooted in a desire to trust and to please ourselves. Therefore, we often find ourselves experiencing (and fighting!) self-centered living. Today, we will continue to consider the model that Jesus provided and discern how to overcome our self-oriented feelings in order to build our lives around what is true. Simply put, Jesus is our model for true spiritual living. MP3 download.

The Fundamental Difference Between Jesus and You

Sunday, January 24th, 2010 : By Dan Miller

In the teaching on Sunday, Jan.24.10 in a message entitled: Jesus, Just Hype or Incredibly Human; I made the point that the difference between Jesus and you is one word – “trust.” The following images are meant to display how Jesus displayed similar emotions and desires that all humans have. The difference is that Jesus’ emotions and desires are rooted in His trust in the Father while our emotions and desires are rooted in trust in ourselves. This is exactly why Jesus never sinned because He trusted in God and not Himself. This is exactly the opposite of what Adam and Eve did and every other human (other than Jesus) who has ever followed them….

Personal Jesus, Part III: Jesus, Just Hype or Incredibly Human?

Sunday, January 24th, 2010 : By Dan Miller

It says in Hebrews 2:14-15,18:

14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery… 18 For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

This section of Scripture conveys an extremely personal Jesus. A Jesus that is incredibly human. When it comes to the humanity of Jesus, we often buy the hype of a superman-like Jesus …

Personal Jesus, Part I: What Are You Looking At?

Sunday, January 10th, 2010 : By Dan Miller

Have you ever noticed that the questions regarding to the identity of Jesus during his time on earth never related to whether or not Jesus was actually a human? It was obvious. Jesus was a person like any other person. The driving questions about Jesus during his day related precisely to his spiritual relationship to God. However, have you noticed that today the reverse is more often the case? We simply resort to whitewashing over difficult situations in life with the overarching banner that God is in control. While it is certainly true that God is sovereign over all of creation, the Bible also paints a picture of Jesus being intimately involved in our lives, right down to the …
