The effects of Jesus’ trust in the Father are profound and tremendously instructive. Since the desire of Jesus was to please the Father, the emotions and desires that Jesus had were always God-centered. The opposite is true for us today. Even as Christians our emotions and desires are rooted in a desire to trust and to please ourselves. Therefore, we often find ourselves experiencing (and fighting!) self-centered living. Today, we will continue to consider the model that Jesus provided and discern how to overcome our self-oriented feelings in order to build our lives around what is true. In the teaching on Sunday, Jan.24.10 in a message entitled: Jesus, Just Hype or Incredibly Human; I made the point that the difference between Jesus and you is one word – “trust.” The following images are meant to display how Jesus displayed similar emotions and desires that all humans have. The difference is that Jesus’ emotions and desires are rooted in His trust in the Father while our emotions and desires are rooted in trust in ourselves. This is exactly why Jesus never sinned because He trusted in God and not Himself. This is exactly the opposite of what Adam and Eve did and every other human (other than Jesus) who has ever followed them….

It says in Hebrews 2:14-15,18:

14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery… 18 For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
