Connections : Life • Friends • God

The large-group assembly is a vital time to come together as a church to hear the Word of God together and respond in celebration through song, the Lord’s Supper, and prayer. However, the large-group gathering does not allow us to interact with God’s truth in the way smaller groups do. To facilitate that better, we offer more classes during the Bible study time.

There is another thing that the large-group assembly doesn’t allow for very well… that is the ability to get to know one another in a meaningful way. We have other venues for that, like small groups that meet in homes and getting involved serving regularly in a ministry area, but it can be a big step from being relatively anonymous on Sunday morning to jumping into a small group or finding the ministry where you are ready to serve on a regular basis.

So we are taking some additional steps to make the second half of Sunday morning more relationally oriented, creating environments where we connect with one another as we connect with God through the study of His Word. We are calling this “Connections” because we connect with God and each other.

Current Classes (Fall 2009)
Young Adults

Matthew Weeks will be continuing the Young Adults class. We will start off looking at what makes the Gospel “good news.” Throughout the semester we will also focus on ways we can serve at our church and in our community.

Parents of Young Children

Matt Hodge will teach a new class aimed at parents of young children, where we will look at one of Jesus’ most common teaching methods – the parables.

Homebuilders

Ken Rutherford and Hugh Williams “Homebuilders” will study C. S. Lewis’s The Screwtape Letters. We will be looking at the insights Lewis gives us into temptations we face and turning to Scripture for ways to be wise and stand firm.

Parents of Students

Larry Farlow will continue his class for parents of students with a study on Acts. We will discuss various questions as we look at Acts, its historical context, purpose, structure and meaning.

Over 40

Gary Dirrim will continue his class for the “over 40″ set with some studies from John MacArthur on a variety of topics drawn from the New Testament.
