Questions About Heaven, Part I
Sunday, August 8th, 2010 : By Dan Miller
We have been considering the connection between how we view the future and our ability to live a focused, Kingdom-centered life. Jesus applied this dynamic to how we view the coming end of days and how our outlook should be filled with a reverent expectation and vigilance (see Luke 17:20-27). Jesus makes the powerful connection that what we anticipate in the future will mold the way we live now. From the earliest prophetic teachings to end-of-time prophecies we can be sure that both were given to change the way we live our lives today.
Today we will consider some common questions that people have regarding heaven in an effort to distinguish tradition & truth. …

The Purpose of Heaven
Sunday, July 25th, 2010 : By Dan Miller
Last week we began to consider the connection between how we view the future and our ability to live a focused, Kingdom-centered life. Jesus applied this dynamic to how we view material possessions when he says: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21
Jesus makes the powerful connection between how we view our future will mold the way we live here and now. What is it about the future that …

The Heart of Heaven
Sunday, July 18th, 2010 : By Dan Miller
Have you ever considered the connection between living with a focused, Kingdom-centered life and a robust understanding of the future? The Apostle John makes this connection when he writes, “Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. 3 And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. I John 3:2-3
John makes a striking connection between how we view the future with how we seek purpose and purity in our lives here and now. My question for you to consider is why does John do this? Why make this …

Review of the best seller, “The Shack”
Tuesday, June 15th, 2010 : By Dan Miller
Tim Challies overviews a review of the best selling book, The Shack.
In the book, Burning Down The Shack, James De Young gives a startling revelation regarding the theological moorings of Paul Young, author of The Shack.
In April of 2004 De Young attended a Christian think tank and there Young presented a 103-page paper which presented a defense of universal reconciliation, a Christian form of universalism—the view that at some point every person will come to a right relationship with God. If they do not do this before they die, God will use the fires of hell to purge away any unbelief (notice the issue is not our personal sin but our unbelief). Eventually even …

Judgment Day Follow-Up
Sunday, July 12th, 2009 : By Eric Farr
In a previous post, I dealt with a question about the final judgment. One aspect of the question had to do with why there is a judgment if it is a simple matter of unbelievers being condemned and believers being pardoned and entering paradise with the Lord.
In that post, I covered some background on the final judgment. Now I would like to expand on the question of why believers stand in judgment if Christ has already been judged in our place. This is something that was cloudy for me before I examined it more closely and now brings a lot of things together. Much of this comes from the message What Happens When You Die? All Appear Before …

The Leadership Team answers your questions.
Q1 (1:32). If someone fully believes that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose again, yet they are a murderer and kill a ton of people, will they still go to Heaven? Why is there Judgment Day if it is black and white – People who believe in Jesus go to heaven and people who do not go to Hell? What is Judgment Day when we stand before the Lord for then?
Q2 (17:26). A friend of mine who is a Christian was discussing George Tiller’s death with me. He felt it was justified; not an evil act or even wrong for …

The Most Dangerous Thing in the Entire World, Part 1
Sunday, May 31st, 2009 : By Dan Miller
Do you know what the most dangerous thing in the entire world is? Could it be a force of nature like a hurricane or a tsunami? Maybe it is a latent virus ready to engulf the world (e.g. the “swine flu”). Maybe it is an out-of-control dictator like North Korea’s Kim Jong-Il or the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. While both of these men possess an ideology that poses a threat to the world through the development of nuclear weapons; can they be branded with the label of being the most dangerous thing in the entire world? Today, you will find out what this “thing” is and consider what steps we need to take in order to disarm it. James …

Theology
Sunday, May 18th, 2008 : By Tom Holbrook
As a follow-up to our previous discussion of tradition, today we will take a step back and ask some broader questions such as “What is theology?”, ”Why is theology important for the average person?”, and “What approaches are being taken in pursuing theology today?”.

graceTALK, May 2008
Sunday, May 4th, 2008 : By Leadership Team
The Leadership Team answers your questions.
Q1 (2:29): Several years ago, I had an argument with my sister-in-law in which she accused me and my husband of all sorts of transgressions against members of the family. The big problem was that not a single one of those offenses was against her. After the argument, we received calls from the remaining siblings who were present at my toungue lashing telling me that they held nothing against my husband and me and didn’t even know what offenses the sister-in-law was talking about. I wrote an open letter of apology to our family members and asked them to come to us in the future if they held something against us. …
