God’s Attributes

Eric Groover   -

In the life of Jesus Christ, we see someone who is committed to loving God the Father will all that He is. When asked what the greatest commandment is, Jesus said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37)

Out of everything in the world that we could be asked to do, Jesus says we are to love God with everything about us. All we say, think and do are intended to be done out of love for God. In fact, we exist to glorify Him by loving Him with our whole selves.

This created purpose is not only true for us as adults but also for children.

As a children’s ministry, we want to help parents teach their kids to have a God-centered view of the world and to love Him completely. One way to help our kids is by studying His many attributes. As we teach them about the greatness and perfections of God, we are putting before them the one for whom they were created to live. The one in which alone will their hearts be satisfied.

This summer at church, our preaching series is on various attributes of God. Therefore, we wanted to make you aware of a new resource by Truth78 (the makers of our children’s Connection curriculum). It is called God’s Attributes and was written by Jill Nelson.

This book provides Scripture, explanations, discussion questions, and activities to help encourage your kids to explore God’s attributes. It helps you and your kids delight in His greatness and live accordingly. This resource could be used during family worship or as a book you read with your kids at various times.

Listen to what Chap Bettis, author of The Disciple-Making Parent, says about the book.

“As a parent, I loved teaching my children the character of God in simplified form. Why? Because as we were reading together, I was being taught at the same time. My faith was being built. For this reason, I am thrilled to recommend this new resource by Jill Nelson. This book will be a wonderful aid to parents and grandparents as they seek to disciple the hearts of their children.”

You can purchase a copy of it from Truth78.org or on Amazon.com.

We also have a copy across from the children’s check-in desk at church that you can flip through.

In John 17:3, we read, “This is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”  As a church, parents, and grandparents, let’s help our children learn about the greatness of God. May this resource be a help towards that end.
